This morning, NASA astronomers made a major announcement of the discovery of these 7 planets orbiting a nearby star. Out of the 7 Earth-like, and size, planets 3 of them have huge potential to contain life in.
This new system of planets are orbiting around a dwarf star named TRAPPIST-1. This sun is cool, small (8 percent the mass and 11 percent its radius of our sun) and 40 light years away from us.
Using NASA’s Spitzer Space Telescope, the findings were led by Michaël Gillon of the University of Liège in Belgiu.
“This is the first time so many planets of this kind are found around the same star,” stated Gillon.
