Today is Bill Murray’s birthday! The legendary actor turns 65. The guy is known for so many characters he’s played in movies in the last few decades. It’s really tough picking out only 10. But here are 10 Bill Murray films everyone should watch:
10.) Rushmore (1998) – One of Wes Anderson’s early films, Bill Murray stars with Jason Schwartzman. It’s about a student in one of the finest schools in the country, Rushmore Academy.
9.) Stripes (1981) – Directed by Ivan Reitman, Murray, coming straight outta SNL, plays a smooth talking, self-elected leader is in charge of an outfit of misfits.
8.) Caddyshack (1980) – Directed by Harold Ramis, this sports comedy classic focuses on a group of talented golfers while Murray is in charge of taking care of the gopher infestation.
7.) Broken Flowewrs (2005) – Bill Murray plays a retired computer tycoon who receives an anonymous letter that he has a nineteen year old he’s never met. He then goes on a journey to visit ex-girlfriends that can possibly know the truth.
6.) Meatballs (1979) – Bill Murray plays Tripper, an immature counselor at Camp Northstar.
5.) Mad Dog and Glory (1993) – Robert Deniro plays a cop. Bill Murray plays a mob boss who’s an aspiring stand up comedian. Need we say more?
4.) The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou (2004) – Oceanographer Steve Zissou swore revenge on a rare shark who ate one of his crew members (Estebaaan!). On along for the ride is Owen Wilson, Willem Dafoe, Jeff Goldblum, and Cate Blanchett. This film is another collaboration with Wes Anderson.
3.) Lost in Translation (2003) – Two strangers in Tokyo, Japan form a special bond. Bill Murray plays an aging actor who’s in Tokyo to shoot a whiskey commercial. Scarlett Johansson plays a conflicted newlywed who’s accompanying her famous photographer husband. The film is directed by Sophia Coppola and fetures a great soundtrack with beautiful shots of Tokyo.
2.) Ghostbusters (1984) – Who you gonna call? Bill Murray, along with Dan Aykroyd, Harold Ramis, and Ernie Hudson form The Ghostbusters; a team of paranormal fighters in New York. The Ghostbuster stumble upon a gateway to another dimension that released a bunch of evil into the city. It’s up to The Ghostbuster to save the city from evil ghosts…and the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man.
1.) Groundhog Day (1993) – Directed by Harold Ramis, Bill Murray plays Phil the weatherman who is out to cover the emergence of the groundhog from its hole for Groundhog Day. A huge blizzard strikes his town, making Phil stuck in a time warp where he relives the same day over and over again.
