Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim was a success back in 2013. But, how successful was it to produce a sequel? Just several months ago, it was confirmed that Pacific Rim 2 was definitely happening with Del Toro back in the director’s chair. The anticipated sequel was set to release on August 4, 2017.
However, this morning, according to The Hollywood Reporter, Pacific Rim 2 has been “halted indefinitely”. With a bunch of studio politics between Legendary, Universal, and Warner Bros. still to this day at large, the original Pacific Rim made a questionable profit for it getting a sequel. No official word from either studio has been said if whether or not we’ll be seeing Pacific Rim. But with box office disappointments like The Seventh Son, it’s looking like tension between the studios might not want to take big risks like a sequel to Pacific Rim, which performed better in China than it did in the U.S.
But what do you guys think? Are you hoping that these studios can get their shit together so they can give us more Kaiju vs Jaeger death matches? Or were you not a fan of the first Pacific Rim? Or maybe you’re hoping that we’ll see the Pacific Rim Jaegers team up Godzilla to battle more monsters? Let us know! Axial On!
