Legendary and Toho’s Godzilla updates

After the success of last year’s Godzilla directed by Star Wars Rogue One’s Gareth Edwards, it was pretty clear that we will definitely be seeing the King of the Monsters on the big screen again.

It was revealed at last year’s San Diego Comic-Con that Godzilla will return to cinemas on June 8, 2018. Not only that, but we will be seeing the return of other memorable monsters such as Rodan, King Ghidorah, and Mothra!! Whaaaaa!!!

Once Gareth Edwards is done with ‘Rogue One’ he will jump back on the director’s chair for the anticipated (and monster jammed) Godzilla sequel. Max Borenstein, the film’s screenwriter has said, “I’m writing it now, and it’s really going to be great. I don’t want to go off book and tell you anything that I’m not allowed to tell you. The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that the world is established, we can do bigger and even better things. We’re really stoked.”

Thousands of miles away, Toho, the original Japanese distribution company of Godzilla are also developing their own Godzilla movie. Production on their Godzilla film starts next month and is set to be released next year and will co-directed by live action Attack on Titan’s Shinji Higuchi.

The Toho Godzilla film will be known to go “hybrid” with their special effects; as in a mix of CG and practical effects. They’re also promising their Godzilla to be the “most terrifying” version we’ve seen on film.

With all these Godzilla films coming out soon, which one are you most excited about? Maybe you have faith that Toho can bring new life to their old school take on the King of the Monsters? Were you a big fan of the Gareth Edwards film? What would you like to see in the next Godzilla installment? Let us know! Axial On!
